Biography – brief vitae:

Baruck Opiyo received Ph.D. in Mass Communication and MA in Journalism from the University of Iowa, having obtained undergraduate degrees in Economics, Literature & Communication from Panjab University in Chandigarh, India. He started his career in Communication as a journalist, and worked for five media organizations in India, Kenya and the United States before moving to Daystar University in Nairobi, Kenya to teach Journalism and Public Relations courses at undergraduate and graduate levels.  While at Daystar he provided consultancy services to several PR and Advertising firms in Eastern Africa and training programs for companies and government Departments. He also served as external examiner in Communication for thee Commonwealth Universities in Eastern Africa before joining EMU in 2002. He is currently an Asst. Professor at the Faculty of Communication & Media Studies, and has been Chair of Public Relations & Advertising Department since 2005. He a member of the African Council for Communication Education (ACCE), European Communication & Research Association (ECREA), and European Public Relations Education & Research Association (EUPRERA), and has written and published several conference and journal articles, book reviews and chapters and regularly writes commentaries for media organizations in different countries.

Biography

      Since 2001 she has been teaching in the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies at Eastern Mediterranean University. She is one of the editor Kadın/Woman 2000 interdisciplinary women’s studies journal. teaching sociology and anthropology. Her main area is sociology, cultural anthropology, gender/feminist studies and cultural studies.
