Biography

Zerrin Oral Kavas earned her BS in Sociology (1985), MS (1988) and PhD (1996) in philosophy, all at the Middle East Technical University. She worked as teaching and research assistant from 1985 onwards in the Philosophy Department of the same university. After 1996 she also taught at Gazi University and Başkent University. In 1997 she visited Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium) for postdoctoral studies at the Institute of Philosophy. In 1998 she was appointed as assistant professor at Başkent University, Department of Political Science and International Relations. She taught at Başkent University until fall 2002, when she joined the Eastern Mediterranean University, Faculty of Communication and Media Studies. In addition to her academic studies, Oral Kavas has worked in the field of classical Turkish music. She has participated in numerous concerts both as a soloist and choir member of the METU TMT society, TEK Choir, Ankara Polyphonic Youth Choir and Famagusta Municipality Choir.
